With more than 2.5 million rear-end collisions occurring every year, rear-end crashes are the most common type of car accidents in the United States, according to the National Safety Council. Rear-end motor vehicle accidents can cause serious and debilitating injuries whether the force of impact is slight or severe. Generally, the larger the vehicle that causes the rear-end crash, and the faster the car is traveling, the more likely that the victims of the wreck will suffer severe injuries. Soft tissue injuries, head and neck injuries, traumatic brain injuries, back and spinal cord injuries and even death can result from rear-end accidents.
Should a victim survive a rear-end collision, it can take months of medical treatment and rehabilitation to fully recover from the accident. Many of the injuries sustained after a rear-end crash are extremely painful and require around the clock medical care. Other rear-end collision injuries may seem less severe at first, but the symptoms can intensify over time. Victims of rear-end accidents may pursue compensation for injuries and damages from the at-fault driver. When someone is killed in a rear-end collision, the family of the victim may seek compensation for their loss by filing a wrongful death suit.
