New Port Richey, FL – Two people were taken to Bayonet Point Regional Medical Center Hospital last month after being shot near a Dunkin’ Donuts in New Port Richey.
Officials reported that their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Police were notified of the shooting near the store around 9 p.m. When they arrived at the scene, one victim was found inside the Dunkin’ Donuts, and the other had run to a nearby street.
The suspects apparently fled the scene before police arrived.
The investigation into the shooting is pending.
Inadequate security or negligent security claims arise when property owners fail to live up to their obligations of keeping their premises safe and free from violent attacks. This includes bars, restaurants, parking lots and any other location that members of the public can visit. When a property owner fails to maintain proper security on their premise, this could result in a guest or customer being the victim of a violent crime or attack, such as a shooting, rape, robbery or kidnapping. No guest should have to endure the physical and emotional trauma that comes along with a physical attack. If you or a loved one has been the victim of a violent crime that was a result of negligent security, you have a legal right to hold the property owner responsible for your losses.
Negligent security claims arise when a property owner fails to protect guests and visitors of their property from the foreseeable dangerous crimes of a third party. This can include the following criminal activity:
- Muggings or Physical Assaults at a Gas Station
- Rape or Sexual Assault at a Hotel
- Robbery in a Parking Lot
- Shooting of a Customer at a Restaurant, Parking Lot or ATM
It is required for business owners to keep their properties reasonably safe for guests, customers and visitors. Adequate security measures can include installing security cameras, hiring security guards, installing sufficient lighting, equipping doors and windows with sturdy locks and alarms and even trimming bushes and hedges so they do not grow too tall.
