July 31, 2013
A 58-year-old Hudson woman was killed Monday afternoon in a four-vehicle crash on U.S. 19 in Hernando County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 3:37 p.m. on U.S. 19 just south of River Country Drive in Spring Hill.
The deceased was driving a 2001 Nissan Altima south on U.S. 19 when a 2001 Pontiac Montana heading northbound travelled across the grass median and crashed into the left side of her car. At this time FHP does not know what caused the Pontiac to drift across the median.
The impact of the accident ejected the driver of the Pontiac from the car.
A third vehicle, a 2003 Toyota Corolla travelling southbound on U.S. 19, crashed into the rear of the Pontiac. This collision caused a 2009 Kia Sorrento to collide with a Toyota Corolla, according to reports.
The Hudson woman was taken to Bayonet Point Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The driver who was ejected from the Pontiac was taken to Bayonet Point Hospital in serious condition. Three other people involved in the four-car pileup suffered minor injuries.
The investigation into this crash is pending.
When a loved one is unexpectedly taken from you in an automobile accident, it is never easy. Your family is left to grieve while financial burdens related to the accident pile up, like hospital bills, medical expenses, burial costs and more. If the person killed was your family’s breadwinner, this can only make the financial struggle even more difficult. After a fatal car accident, your family should not have to endure such hardships alone. While a lawsuit may be the furthest thing from your mind, speaking with a Hernando County Wrongful Death Lawyer at Whittel & Melton can help you hold any negligent party responsible for the death of your loved one accountable.
In Florida, surviving family members of those killed by the negligent actions of another person can file what is called a wrongful death lawsuit. A wrongful death lawsuit can provide loved ones with compensation for many different kinds of damages, such as:
- Funeral Costs
- Hospital Bills
- Loss of Companionship
- Loss of Consortium
- Loss of Income and Benefits
- Pain and Suffering
We understand that no amount of financial compensation will ever erase your heartbreaking loss, but holding the responsible person accountable for their actions can actually help you gain some sense of closure.
