Man Killed During School Bus “Figure 8” Race at Citrus County Speedway

Sports-related head injuries

Inverness, Florida – A 62-year-old driver tragically lost his life on Saturday night while participating in a sanctioned school bus race at Citrus County Speedway, located at 3600 S Florida Ave, Inverness, FL.

During a special “figure 8” race, the man’s green bus overturned and landed on its roof, and a black bus struck it. According to reports, no other individual sustained injuries.

The accident was reported to have happened around 10 p.m., when two buses collided, causing the green bus to flip. School bus figure 8 racing, is a popular special event at many short tracks around the country. It involves vehicles crossing at an unregulated intersection in the middle of the course, which can make it particularly dangerous.

This is not the first tragic accident at a racetrack in west central Florida this year. In May, a 12-year-old boy from Arcadia suffered fatal injuries during a Kids Club race at Auburndale Speedway in Polk County.

What To Do After a Fatal Accident?

After a fatal accident, family members of the deceased may pursue a wrongful death claim against responsible parties.

Although the damages received in a wrongful death claim cannot alleviate the pain of losing a loved one, they can help secure the family’s financial future and well-being.

Wrongful death lawsuits may be brought by the surviving family members of a person who dies due to another person’s recklessness or negligence. Eligible family members may include:

  • A spouse
  • Children of the victim
  • Parents of the victim

Under certain circumstances, a grandparent or another extended family member may be able to file suit. Every case is unique, so it is best to discuss the matter with a wrongful death lawyer who can determine your rights and answer any questions that may occur.

The Citrus County Injury Lawyers at Whittel & Melton handle wrongful death claims in Inverness, Crystal River, Beverly Hills, Lecanto, Homosassa, Dunnellon, Hernando, Surgarmill Woods, Citrus Springs, and Floral City.

We understand the importance of financial recovery for surviving family members and will fight to ensure you receive full and fair compensation for your losses.

Please remember that in Florida, the Statute of Limitations for wrongful death is two years from the date of a loved one’s death.

If you have lost a family member due to someone else’s wrongful conduct in Citrus County, contact the Inverness Injury and Wrongful Death Lawyers at Whittel and Melton and call 866-608-5529.
