Wesley Chapel, FL – A five-car pileup on Interstate 75 sent three people to the hospital Saturday with severe injuries.

Troopers are currently investigating the incident to determine what caused the crash.

A 65-year-old Tampa woman was apparently heading south around 6:30 p.m. when she swerved to avoid hitting a Nissan Altima stopped in the road. She tried to avoid contact with the Altima, but collided with the left side of the car.

A series of collisions shortly followed.

Troopers have not yet determined why the Altima, driven by a 52-year-old Tampa woman, was stopped. As of Sunday, she was listed in serious condition at Florida Hospital Trauma.

A 35-year-old Lakeland woman driving a Dodge Charger was injured in the collision after her car spun, flipped and overturned. She was taken to Tampa General Hospital where she was listed in serious condition. Her 14-year-old passenger was also taken to Tampa General with critical injuries.

All of the other drivers involved in the five-vehicle pileup were not injured.
