Holiday Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Hit and Run Collision
Port Richey, Florida – A 47-year-old man from Holiday was hit while riding his bicycle on Tuesday by a 27-year-old woman from Port Richey who was driving a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix. The driver left the scene of the accident.
The man suffered serious injuries and is currently in critical condition at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman hit the man as he was crossing Fox Hollow Drive at Regency Park Boulevard. She apparently had a 1-year-old in the car with her and stopped to tell witnesses she would be right back and then fled the scene.
Later that afternoon, a witness contacted authorities after seeing what appeared to be the car involved.
What Happened Next After the Hit and Run Accident?
The woman was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injury, failing to report a crash, and careless driving. She was booked into the Pasco County jail.
Anytime a driver flees the scene of an accident it can be especially devastating to injury victims. Thankfully, our Pasco County Injury Attorneys at Whittel and Melton can help you receive the financial compensation to fully recover from your injuries.
As a cyclist who has suffered injuries in a hit-and-run accident, you may be able to pursue an uninsured motorist claim with your car insurance company. This means regaining monetary compensation if the driver who fled the scene is not found or if the driver is identified but is unable to pay for damages.
An uninsured motorist claim can be brought after it has been confirmed that the at-fault driver left the scene of the crash or has no insurance. This can cover any expenses related to your bicycle vs. motor vehicle accident injuries, including medical bills, lost wages, and property damage.
While your insurance may cover a hit-and-run accident, providers may try to deny the claim or offer you a settlement that is far lower than what you need to cover your losses. Be aware that not taking appropriate action right away could result in a loss of your rights.
At Whitten and Melton, we are not afraid to battle your insurance provider.
