5 Killed in Two Separate Pasco Car Accidents

A 22-year-old man and his 1-year-old son were among the five people killed Sunday evening in two separate collisions in Pasco County.

The Dade City man and his son were traveling north on U.S. 98 around 10 p.m. when reportedly the man crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, his Oldsmobile crashed head-on with a semitrailer truck. The truck quickly became engulfed in flames, and the man and his son were confirmed dead at the scene.

The 56-year-old truck driver of Riverview was also pronounced dead at the scene. Her 53-year-old husband suffered minor injuries and was not hospitalized.

The other collision occurred around 8:40 p.m. in Hudson.

An 81-year-old Hudson man was headed north on U.S. 19 when his Volkswagen veered from the center lane into the right, crashing into a Saturn sedan.

FHP believes both cars rotated, overturned and rammed into a light pole.

The crash killed both the driver and passenger of the Saturn sedan, a 44-year-old Spring Hill woman and a 44-year-old man of Port Richey.

The driver of the Volkswagen was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point with serious injuries.

Troopers claim alcohol was a factor and that charges are pending.

As of now, both crashes remain under investigation.
