Hernando County Auto Accident Lawyer :: Spring Hill Driver Dies in Crash after Suffering Medical Emergency
December 5, 2013
A Spring Hill man was killed Sunday morning he suffered a medical emergency while driving and crashed into two parked cars, according to officials.
The 83-year-old man was travelling westbound on County Line Road at about 10 a.m. when he experienced a medical emergency while attempting to turn left onto U.S 19.
The man lost control of his 2013 Toyota Camry and drove onto the west shoulder of U.S. 19. The car became airborne and ultimately smashed into two parked automobiles outside of a business located just off U.S. 19.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. His passenger, a 75-year-old woman, was taken to Bayonet Point Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
A medical emergency such as a heart attack, stroke, loss of consciousness, or a seizure is very serious on its own, but when these medical issues take place while driving, they can be even more dangerous. Unfortunately, even the most cautious motorist can become dangerous to those sharing the roadways when they suffer a medical emergency. In most cases, they do not have the ability to control their car, which makes avoiding obstacles virtually impossible. This places the driver, any passengers and any pedestrians, bicyclists and other vehicles on the roadway in harm’s way. Sadly, when a car is driven by someone suffering from a medical emergency the car will not stop until it hits something in its path, such as another car, wall, home or store.
When a driver passes out from a medical condition, it can be difficult to determine whose fault an accident is. It may be possible that it is no one’s fault. A freak accident, such as a medical emergency, can be referred to as an “act of God,” where no one is liable. However, there are always other possibilities that can lead to someone being blamed. There is no way to truly figure out what caused a medical emergency without fully investigated the details. These accidents can certainly be quite complex.
